Frequently Asked Questions

Please read below to find answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.  If this doesn’t get you the details you need, don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Is my data secure?

Community Dataroots takes data security very seriously.  Our preferred method of working with customers is transferring data files to and from Microsoft OneDrive Cloud where your information is securely encrypted. Any information downloaded to password-protected, company computers is done only temporarily and transferred back to the cloud drive for permanent storage Company computers are routinely cleaned to remove any file transfers with OneDrive.

How much do your services cost?

Please see our page on pricing for complete details.  Customers have paid from just a few hundred dollars for a simple, data project upward to thousands of dollars for more complex projects, which may include ongoing data support.  We can bid on your project upon completion of our questionnaire and a follow-up consultation.  Community Dataroots desires to serve nonprofits of all shapes and sizes and will work to stay within your budget.

Is this worth the cost?

Studies of successful nonprofits have revealed that, on average, it takes at least six communication touch points over several months to receive a major gift.  A strong data framework supports this in a few ways.  First, good data about your supporters can help you identify your major prospects.  Second, each touch point should be recorded and notes added when possible.  And third, current contact information is obviously needed to get in touch with them.  These are just a few reasons why establishing a database is a good idea for your organization.

Is my data sold to third parties?

Information you entrust with us is not sold to third parties.  Community Dataroots does work with outside data vendors, as needed, to enhance your data as we agree upon with you first.  This may include validating current contact information on your supporters, appending emails, demographics and other information about your community.  We set confidentiality agreements in place with these data vendors first, before any information is ever sent to them for enhancement.

This is a lot. Where do we begin?

For nonprofits interested in our services, but who currently do not have any data files, we encourage you to request our how-to guide at the bottom of our homepage.  We know this can be a daunting task and we’re here to guide you through this process.

Who owns the data?

You do.  While Community Dataroots may help create and store data for you, it’s ultimately YOUR data.  Upon the completion of our agreement, unless renewed, we send you the data back in the format you prefer and delete all the information off our systems.  Plain and simple.  Information we help create for you is not repackaged, resold, or otherwise used with another customer or outside third party.
